Our history
From coal merchants to car specialists, we’ve been in business for well over a century now – and part of the motor trade for more than 60 years.
Hippo has been a family-owned enterprise from the very beginning, starting with George Paley Preston’s venture into coal in 1906. By the 1960s, Stanley and Eric Preston had set up in car sales as EWS Preston, which led to Preston’s becoming a trusted prestige car dealer over the next few decades.
Today, Hippo does it all, from leasing to finance and, of course, top-quality used cars. We’re bigger, better and more diverse than ever, but we’re still a family business at heart.
